Baptisms

Since the time of the New Testament, new members of the Church have been welcomed into the Church family by baptism (also known as Christening). Baptism is a time of great joy for family and friends. It is also an opportunity for the church to welcome and support candidates as they begin their journey in the Christian Faith.  You may find the article about baptism on the Church of England website useful. We welcome all those who are interested in being baptised.

Confirmation

Confirmation is (in words borrowed from the Church of England’s website) “the point in the Christian journey at which you affirm for yourself the faith into which you have been baptized and your intention to live a life of committed discipleship”. It is a wonderful opportunity for anyone to say their own public "YES" to being a Christian.  If you haven't already been baptised, then this will normally take place at the same time as Confirmation. Confirmation services are held regularly in Salisbury Cathedral and more occasionally in the parishes. Do look at the article on Confirmation on the Church of England Website.

Weddings

Since Christ's presence at the wedding in Cana, the Church has officiated at and blessed marriages.  St Mary's believes that marriage vows should be made in the presence of Almighty God and welcomes all those who wish to marry or have their union blessed. St Marys runs marriage preparation throughout the year. We recommend that you read the article about weddings on the Church of England website, and have a look at the great yourchurchwedding website through the link on the links page.

Funerals

In times of bereavement, St Mary's is able to conduct funerals for all those who have died within the parish. We hope that the clergy and wider church community may be of some comfort to families at a difficult time and that you may be able to find solace within the Church. You may find the information about funerals on the Church of England website useful.
