Who Am I

Who am I in this place of surrender?

Child, adult, married, divorced,

Mother twice,

Married, widowed, grandmother

Friend, helper, passer-by

A name to identify a period of life.

But who am I? this flesh and blood and bone.

I am as others see me—an outward expression of humanity—

or nothing in this seething mass of life

Who am I in me this inner being?

This secret being that even I don’t know

As I look for a name

an identity which life has taught it should have.

But wait, a voice sighs “You are mine

I made you, made you in my image.

In this place of surrender, your identity

Is in me—loved—cherished—

One with me

Child of God
