Day 54 – Fifth Sunday of Easter – Revd Tim Heaton’s Thought for the Day
“On Sunday, a united service of thanksgiving was held at St Mary’s, to which the Home Guard, Royal Observer Corps, V.A.D., Civil Defence and other organisations had been invited. The church was filled as perhaps it has not been for years.” (A report from 1945, reproduced in this month’s issue of The Gillingham Historian.)
The Sunday after VE Day was observed throughout the country as Thanksgiving Sunday. Time at last to give thanks to God for a “great deliverance”.
Today I went on my own to Milton church to pray. Open again, to clergy only at this time, but open nonetheless. Another sign of hope, and something else to give thanks for today.
