Day 62 Revd Tim Heaton’s Thought for the Day

These three days before Ascension Day (Thursday) are the Rogation Days, when we ask for God’s blessing on the land and for the protection of crops.

In the Prayer Book tradition, yesterday was observed as Rogation Sunday. The BCP gospel begins, “Verily, verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you” (John 16:23).

So perhaps, over these three days, we can all say some prayers of petition and thanksgiving for the resources of the earth and for those who grow and produce our food. And remember: “In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

Alleluia. Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia.
